Remember how you and your best girlfriend would sit on each others laps as comfortably as hugging your dog, lying on the floor to watch tv, spontaneously skipping in public, or eating candy any time of day? Remember how you assumed you would always feel that connected? I bet if your best girlfriend attempted to sit on your lap today, there'd be some serious awkwardness; you may not call her for a while so to let the embarrassment settle a bit.
I hope these two reach for one another when in need of a good cuddle well into their 80s. I hope they never lose that easy comfort.
